Featuring Majel Connery.
Adapted from a book of speculative poems by artist Jovi Schnell, this collaborative theatrical production incorporates sound, costume, interactive set elements, projections and choreography to chart the tales and explorations of the Electric Space Gardeners as they cultivate their programmable plant specimens located within their virtual gardens. Throughout eight scenes themes of the opera include: The lost connection of the ESG with their origin and nature as they learn how they arrived and discover themselves to be a genetically engineered hybrid species composed as 1/3 Human, 1/3 Plant, and 1/3 Machine. The virtual setting of the Garden explores it as a project of our future cultivations, a mirror to our humanity. As the performance progresses the ESG detect signs of the ALLMINE virus in their gardens, a corrupting entity that consumes and cannibalizes everything within its path. When the three gardeners retrieve and download a circadian rhythm bequeathed to them from the Plant Oracle it destroys the virus re-grounding them back to their memories of being human. ESG climaxes with a dynamic crescendo of score, dance and movements by the performers that express the building of new code; reprogramming a future they want to be in. The performance commences after the gardeners enter the audience and dispense seed packets, labeled with instructions to propagate their stewardship in real and virtual space. Given our looming ecological crises these plantings offer space for both deep reckoning and positive action.
